What is Health Coaching?

A Health Coach is a supportive mentor and wellness authority helping clients feel their best through food & lifestyle changes by tailoring individualized wellness programs to meet their clients’ needs.  A Health Coach is professionally trained to help you maximize your full potential as you reach your desired results.  Anyone can call themselves a health coach, but unless they have the correct certification, experience and knowledge, it’s just a title.  I obtained my certification from the worlds largest health coaching school in the world, the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN).

Health coaching works closely with you to clarify your present reality (where you are right now), address personal and professional challenges and obstacles, sets attainable goals.  We work closely together to help you break the negative patterns that cause you to stay stuck and block your path to success.

How can a Health Coach help me succeed?

Everyone has to eat in order to sustain their bodies.  But our Standard American Diet (SAD) is doing more harm to the human body than good.  A good Health and Wellness Coach understands that 75% of Americans are depleted in the vital nutrients needed for optimum health and energy.  Through objective perspective, active listening, and insight, we take a holistic approach to supporting you as a whole person.   We use a simple four-step process to help give you a chance to reverse symptoms and transform your life:

  • Identify and analyze barriers, challenges and obstacles
  • Create a vision or road map for what you want
  • Devise plans of action to achieve specific outcomes
  • Foster continued awareness and accountability to maximize productivity

Health coaching is different from live coaching or life management coaching.  As a certified health and wellness coach I provide my clients with the following support.

Today, people grab fast food that’s full of unhealthy fats and carbs.  They eat in their cars while driving down the road without actually tasting their food.  They gobble down food in front of the TV, then wonder where it all went.  The focus of eating is to fill the stomach with something–anything–that will satisfy their hunger and cravings.

On top of that, our sedentary jobs cause a ton of problems for the body.  People are getting up to move less.  They tire far too easily and quickly and experience headaches, skin and digestive problems, joint, muscle and body pain.  They are drained of energy and therefore, a willingness to change their life habits.

The result is a nation of obese people who rely on drugs to manage the illnesses until they die.

We know that with each season of life, you continue to “build yourself” to become more conscious and aware as you grow and evolve.  This process should be as natural as the rotation of the earth.  Unfortunately, the older we become, life tends to get in the way of this process with its many ups and downs of external events and life balance.  This unbalance causes stress, which causes a lack of sleep, thereby causing mental and physical drain, which then increases inflammation and sickness.  This cycle of life habits interferes with positive personal growth.  My job as a health coach is to help you regain your natural balance by focusing on what you put on the end of your fork!  We inspire transformation from within so you can be happier and live healthier.


Cathy lives in Roanoke, Virginia and specializes in supporting families who desire to change their relationship with health–the way they eat, feel and live.  She is a certified Health Coach & Educator with a strong passion for supporting each client in their journey to feel stronger, healthier, and more energetic.  Cathy presents workshops online and locally and regularly talks about real food, fitness, natural living, and all things ADHD.  

Cathy is the creator of the Holistic Wellness Academy, an online training platform that will soon provide other wellness advocates a place to share their expertise with their clients so they too can learn how to eat smart, move more, feel better and live longer.
