Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat an 8’’ x 8’’ glass baking dish with cooking spray. In a large bowl, stir together the butter and applesauce. One at a time, stir in the granulated sugar, cocoa powder, egg or egg substitute, vanilla, flour, and walnuts until well mixed. Spread the batter in the prepared pan. Bake for 25 minutes, or until the sides begin to pull away from the pan. Cool in the pan on a wire rack. Cut into squares and sprinkle with the confectioners’ sugar (if using).
